Lausanne (SUI), AKUATIK INDONESIA – The FINA Official Draw for the Men's & Women's Olympic Games Water Polo Tournaments 2012 to take place in London (GBR) was held today at the Aquatic Centre, following the conclusion of the afternoon matches of the Water Polo Test Event in the Water Polo Arena. The draw was attended and conducted by the FINA Executive – Dr. Julio C. Maglione (President), Paolo Barelli (Honorary Secretary), Pipat Paniangvait (Honorary Treasurer) and Cornel Marculescu (Executive Director) -, and by TWPC representatives – Gianni Lonzi (Chairman), Richard Foster (Vice Chairman), John Whitehouse (Honorary Secretary) and Dimitris Diathesopoulos (Bureau Liaison).

FINA World Aquatics Convention - 2nd edition - Moscow (RUS), October 29 - November 1

Lausanne (SUI), AKUATIK INDONESIA - FINA is pleased to announce that the 2nd FINA World Aquatics Convention will be held in Moscow (RUS) from October 29 to November 1, 2012 and will include the FINA Gold Swimming Coaches Clinic, bringing together leading aquatic coaches from around the world.

With the theme 'Aquatics for All: Developing and Performing for Excellence', the 2012 Convention will provide the Aquatic community with a platform to progress each of the five disciplines by sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, broadening networks, strengthening relationships and creating business opportunities.

The conference programme will focus on two key themes including the challenges related to the development of Sport for All, and secondly the assessment of winning strategies adopted by elite competitors.

Many sub-themes will be discussed in Moscow, including how new thinking in aquatic venue design and operations can assist, what are the different methods of (public and private) financing sports programmes, the importance of education and the role of new technologies and new media. The conference will also discuss how the FINA Development Programmes for the 202 National Member Federations, swimming scholarships, the importance of our champions as role models and the need for multidisciplinary teams contribute to both Sport for All and elite performance.

'As with the first edition in 2010, many important topics will unite delegates, lecturers and partners in Moscow. The FINA World Aquatics Convention is a unique occasion to evaluate the development of our Aquatic sports in the five continents, and to discuss ways to progress our sports. Despite being recent, the Convention has generated a lot of interest within the FINA Family and is already a milestone in our calendar,' considered FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.

The 2nd FINA World Aquatics Convention provides a unique opportunity to meet leading figures from across the world of aquatics, whilst facilitating important face to face discussions that will ultimately accelerate the growth and development of aquatic sports. (fina)

FINA IN MOURNING - Alexander Dale Oen (NOR)

Lausanne (SUI), AKUATIK INDONESIA – FINA was shocked to learn about the sudden death of prestigious swimmer Alexander Dale Oen (NOR), at the age of 26 in a training camp in Flagstaff (Arizona, USA), on April 30, 2012.

Dale Oen has been of the most promising revelations at the 2008 Olympic Games, winning a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke, an event in which he obtained the victory (the first ever for his country) at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai (CHN). He was therefore one of the most talented swimmers in this stroke and was certainly preparing a brilliant participation at the upcoming Olympic Games in London.

In everyone’s memory is also present his courage in Shanghai when shining in the pool immediately after the sad events that had taken place in Norway. He had given to media and fans an image of a brave and sincere athlete, paying a heartfelt tribute to his compatriots from the pool deck in China. His example had been one of the most vivid moments of those Championships.

FINA shares the mourning of the entire Norwegian swimming community and addresses its most sincere condolences to his family and friend. (fina)

FLAGSTAFF, Arizona, May 1. ACCORDING to the Associated Press, Norwegian world champion Alexander Dale Oen passed away due to cardiac arrest during a training camp in Flagstaff, Ariz., late last night at the age of 26. Dale Oen and the Norwegian team have been in Flagstaff for altitude training.

Norway's swimming federation told the Associated Press that Dale Oen was found on the floor of his bathroom last night, and was later pronounced dead at the Flagstaff Medical Center.

"We're all in shock," Norway Coach Petter Loevberg told the Associated Press. "This is an out-of-the-body experience for the whole team over here. Our thoughts primarily go to his family who have lost Alexander way too early." 

Dale Oen won the 100-meter breaststroke world title last summer in an emotional victory just days after a terrorist attack in Norway claimed the lives of 77 people. He dedicated his victory to the memory of those who died.

"We need to stay united," he said after the race. "Everyone back home now is of course paralyzed with what happened but it was important for me to symbolize that even though I'm here in China, I'm able to feel the same emotions."

Juara Dunia Alexander Dale Oen Meninggal

OSLO, AKUATIK INDONESIA  - Juara dunia renang asal Norwegia Alexander Dale Oen, meninggal dunia diduga karena serangan jantung. Perenang berusia 26 tahun ini meninggal di kota Arizona, Amerika Serikat, Senin (30/4/2012) malam .

Berita meninggalnya Oen disampaikan Komite Olimpiade Norwegia. Oen merupakan juara dunia renang tahun 2011 untuk nomor 100 meter gaya dada.

Oen ditemukan tak bernyawa di kamar mandi oleh rekan-rekannya. Keberadaan Oen di Arizona dalam rangka latihan tim renang Norwegia untuk persiapan Olimpiade London.

Ola Ronsen, dokter tim renang Norwegia segera memeriksa kondisi Oen. Mobil ambulans juga datang tak lama beberapa saat kemudian. Namun, segala upaya untuk menolong nyawa Oen tak berhasil. Oen dinyatakan meninggal pada pukul 21.00 hari Senin malam.

"Ini menyedihkan dan tragis. Kami sudah berupaya menolongnya sesuai prosedur, namun tak berhasil," kata Ronsen. (REUTERS/OTW/KOMPAS)

Sepuluh Perenang Nasional Ikut Malaysia Open

JAKARTA, - AKUATIK INDONESIA-Pengurus Besar Persatuan Renang Seluruh Indonesia (PB PRSI) mengirimkan 10 atlet ke kejuaraan renang Malaysia Terbuka pada 3-6 Mei mendatang.
   
"Kami akan berangkat Selasa (1/5). Kejuaraan ini adalah babak kualifikasi Olimpiade. Kami mohon segenap doa restunya," ujar pelatih kepala Pelatnas renang Hartadi Nurtjojo di Jakarta, Senin.
  
Dari sepuluh perenang yang akan diberangkatkan, enam di antaranya dibiayai Satlak Prima. Mereka adalah Glenn Victor Susanto, I Gede Siman Sudartawa, Triadi Fauzi, Eni Susilawati margono, Yessy Yosaputra, dan Muhammad Idham Basuki. "Sedangkan empat perenang yang dibiayai oleh PB PRSI adalah Raina Saumi Grahana, Resa kanya Dewi, Patricia Yosita, dan Nico Biondi," kata Hartadi.
  
Enam perenang yang dibiayai Satlak Prima merupakan atlet yang tercantum dalam SK Pelatnas Olimpiade. Sementara PB PRSI sengaja memperbanyak amunisi karena keempat sisanya dinilai memiliki peluang. "Tapi ada satu perenang Indonesia yang tidak dikirmkan ke Malaysia, yakni Indra Gunawan. Saat ini ia tengah berlatih di Hungaria," kata Hartadi.
   
Meskipun kejuaraan di Malaysia itu merupakan babak kualifikasi Olimpiade London 2012, Hartadi tidak membebani target kepada para perenang Indonesia tersebut. Ajang itu justru akan dijadikan sarana evaluasi dari hasil Pelatnas di beberapa tempat selama ini.
  
"Saya berharap ada yang memberikan kejutan walaupun ’peak performance’ anak-anak diharapkan muncul di kualifikasi terakhir 19 Juni mendatang, pada kejuaraan Akuatik Asia Tenggara di Singapura," kata Hartadi.
  
Hartadi mengatakan kejutan tersebut diharapkan datang dari Glenn Victor Susanto yang sudah meraih limit B kualifikasi bersama tiga perenang lainnya pada tahun lalu. "Perkembangan Glenn bagus, yang lainnya juga bagus. Glenn memiliki motivasi yang luar biasa. Semoga kejutan itu datang darinya," kata Hartadi.
  
Tapi dia juga menaruh harapan agar pada kejuaraan tersebut seluruh perenang bisa tampil maksimal, terutama keempat perenang yang dibiayai oleh PB bisa masuk limit kualifikasi.
    
Pelatnas renang terbagi empat lokasi. Selain Indra di Hungaria, ada Pelatnas yang berlangsung di Bandung dan Jakarta.
"Sedangkan untuk Glenn, Eni dan Nico sudah menjalani pemusatan latihan di Singapura. Ini merupakan kalender dari PRSI yang disinergikan dengan Satlak Prima. Ini semangat PRSI untuk mengembangkan prestasi renang Indonesia," kata Hartadi.
   
Kejuaraan renang Malaysia Terbuka dijadikan Satlak Prima sebagai ajang memburu tiket Olimpiade, selain dua kejuaraan renang di Eropa. (Kompas.com)

FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships In Canada -- April 30, 2012

OPEN WATER INDONESIA-Canada. FINA President Dr. Julio Maglione announced the first FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships that will be held in the Niagara Falls area in Welland, Canada between August 16-19, 2012. "This new competition gives our young open water stars an opportunity to compete at the highest level."

As part of the Niagara Open Water Festival, the championships will include a Youth Division (14-16 years) and a Junior Division (17-18 years) in 3 different events: 2 solo races and 1 relay.

In the Youth Division, the athletes compete over a 5 km course; in the Junior Division, they compete over a 7.5 km course. The mixed-gender Team Event is a 3-person 3 km relay comprises of either 2 boys and 1 girl or 2 girls and 1 boy. 

The Team Event has 2 categories: 14-16 years in the Youth Division and 17-18 years in the Junior Division. For the Team Event, a maximum of 2 swimmers from the 14-16 age category can swim in the 17-18 age group category with 1 team per Federation.

A maximum of two athletes per Federation are allowed per event in the individual events and a maximum of 1 team per Federation is allowed per age group in the Team Event.

Additionally, the Welland Masters Swim Team and Brock Niagara Aquatics will also conduct the Niagara Open Water Festival on the last day where several events from 1 km to 10 km will be held for all athletes on the same championship course. (swimmingworldmagazine)
