performance sport and we sincerely hope that this event will be a privileged
platform to exchange ideas and to benefit from everyone’s experiences. The main
goal is to create the best conditions for our athletes to develop and improve
their top-level results in our five aquatic disciplines”, said Dr. Maglione.
“Behind every top performance, inevitably appear the name of
the competitor or his coach – sports medicine experts are not mentioned. But
your role is fundamental and please allow me to thank you for your valuable
contribution”, added the FINA President to the audience, mostly composed by
sports medicine specialists.
The first presentation of the Congress (the Bleasdale Lecturer) was done by Dr. Richard Budgett, Chief Medical Officer at the 2012 Olympic Games inLondon and recently
appointed as IOC Medical Director. He recalled the logistic operation related
to all sports medicine aspects at the Games, reinforcing the positive
