RENANG INDAH. China 's spearhead Xuechen Huang and
the team were at their best, sealing an outstanding three days at the 8th FINA
Synchronised Swimming World Trophy with a second straight title in Mexico City
(MEX).
Capturing gold in the Thematic Duet, Free Team and Free
Combination, the Chinese imposed their lead from the start to reach top spot,
securing the gap to overtake its European rivals - Russia ,
Spain and Ukraine .
The Ukrainians, including strong prospect Lolita Ananasova,
leapfrogged team Spain, with at its helm multi-World and Olympic medallist Ona
Carbonell, to finish second overall - a remarkable leap forward for a country
which keeps rising ever-higher in the ranks of the world's top synchro
competitors. Host Mexico
placed fourth while Egypt
took fifth.
Russia , Spain and Ukraine had to share a surprise
victory in the Synchro Highlight Routine, all tying for first with a total
94.6670.
10 teams took part in the spectacular event: China , Egypt ,
Greece , Italy , Kazakhstan ,
Mexico , Russia , Spain ,
Ukraine and USA .
At the World Trophy, scores are given for Artistic
Impression only in order to enhance theatrical and acrobatic skills. The use of
accessories is allowed.
